Bringing your dog into Norway

To enter Norway with a dog, certain health and documentation requirements must be met to ensure a smooth border crossing. These rules apply whether you're travelling for a weekend trip or a longer stay.

Please note:
Failure to comply can lead to refusal of entry or other serious consequences.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

IDENTIFICATION MICROCHIP

Your dog must be permanently identified with an ISO-compatible microship before any vaccinations are given. 

PET PASSPORT

Your dog must have an EU/EEA pet passfort issued by an authorised veterinarian. This passport houses all identification, vaccination and treatment records.

RABIES VACCINATIONS

Most dogs entering Norway must have a valid rabies vaccinations (only exception are dogs that only travel between Sweden and Norway)

First vaccine must be given when the dog is at least 12 weeks old, and be valid for travel for at least 21 days before entry.

TAPEWORM TREATMENT

All dogs must be treated for tapeworm 24 - 120 hours before entering Norway. This must be administered and recorded by a veterinarian in the pet passport.
